Analysis of the potential for growing energy crops on contaminated sites and brownfields in Viet Nam - Feasibility Study

A feasibility study assessed the potential for cultivating renewable raw materials in Viet Nam on areas that are contaminated or currently under limited usage. This included the research in areas contaminated with dioxins and used for industrial purposes, as well as post-mining areas and landfills, and the development of sustainable use plans. The focus was on aspects of climate change as well as regional economic cycles and income-generating opportunities for the rural population. Taking these aspects into consideration, the project analyzed which energy crops would be most suitable for cultivation in these areas. The feasibility study and its findings were presented at workshops and discussed. Drawing on this, decision-makers from the participating Vietnamese institutions prepared a pilot project in order to test the cultivation of energy crops.
