Capacity Building for REDD+ Funds Tracking

As of: September 2021

The project set up a new international online network for tracking financing for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) with at least 15 countries. This is necessary because money flows must be measureable and traceable in order to create a more favourable environment for further REDD+ investments. The network made objective, neutral and reliable information available, and analyses whether REDD+ financing is used effectively. To accomplish this, project partners built an online database to store easily accessible information on REDD+ spending. An annual report summarises the state of REDD+ financing. The new network enables the various stakeholders to use this information for their strategic planning and coordination. These actors can also benefit from related workshops at national level. In this way, the network helps build capacities in the different organisations.

State of implementation/results

Project completed
  • The REDDX project achieved the main goals of tracking finance flows in key REDD+ countries, increasing transparency by allowing stakeholders to better understand what the money was being used for, and generated in-country capacity for government officials and other REDD+ stakeholders to gather and analyse the data themselves.
  • The Project created an interactive website data, made the information publically available, generated a series of national and global reports, and disseminated findings to donors, civil society, and other REDD+ stakeholders.
  • Capacity building workshops on gaps and needs at national level equally spurred discussions on how REDD+ finance could be more productively allocated or spent to meet key donor and national government objectives.
  • REDDX became the go-to source for REDD+ finance information globally compiling and disseminating the most comprehensive data on REDD+ finance flows in several countries.
