Climate Protection through Sustainable Bioenergy Markets in Viet Nam

As of: September 2020

Objective and activities

Vietnam’s economy is booming to such an extent that the country’s electricity consumption is expected to triple by 2030. The government is consequently expanding the use of biomass waste for electricity and heat generation to achieve the greenhouse gas reduction targets planned in Vietnam’s nationally-determined contributions (NDCs). The project supports the development of a sustainable market in this area, advising consultants, project developers and investors on how to draw up feasibility studies, and providing the authorities with an instrument for the approval of biomass energy projects. It teaches staff from financial institutions how to examine and evaluate applications and develops a financing mechanism to favour suitable investments. The project initiates technology partnerships between national and international companies and research and development institutions to develop locally adapted solutions. /
