Converting Air-Conditioning Equipment in Public Buildings to Natural Refrigerants
As of: March 2021
The project has supported the conversion of air-conditioning systems in selected government buildings in Mauritius to demonstrate (a) the advantages of natural refrigerants (ammonia) as an alternative to climate-damaging fluorinated refrigerants; and (b) the potential for increasing efficiency. It was intended to serve as a best-practice model. The project was also advising the National Ozone Unit on selling the credits earned by reducing emissions via a small-scale clean development mechanism. In addition, the operators of the public buildings has been trained in the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment.
