Hutan Harapan: Consolidation of the first Ecosystem Restoration Concession (ERC) in Indonesien

As of: October 2020

Objective and activities

The Harapan ERC project aims to sustainably manage and rehabilitate the remaining logged-out forest in the area. Through partnerships with local communities the concession holder seeks to reduce illegal land grabbing and to support local communities in the wider landscape. Developing a long-term business plan to financially sustain the ERC management as well as containing the illegal land conversion are the main challenges faced by the ERC. Due to the difficulties experienced in the previous project, the extension was approved only after a long and broad consultation.
