INTERACT-Bio Integrated regional action for Biodiversity: Supporting National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) implementation through the mainstreaming of biodiversity objectives across City-Regions.

As of: April 2020

Objective and activities

INTERACT-Bio intends to establish the management of biodiversity and ecosystems as a cross-sectional task and as a joint task of national and sub-national authorities. At the sub-national (especially local) level, existing biodiversity potentials and their value will be identified in selected urban regions in Brazil, India and Tanzania and sub-national BSAPs will be developed. Thus, biodiversity management is established as a cross-cutting task and pilot projects are implemented. At the national level, cooperation with sub-national actors is initiated through dialogue processes. This is intended to promote exemplary action in and with selected urban regions in the forthcoming revision of the NBSAPs. At the global level, the most important experiences gained will be published and thus made available to the parties to the CBD as suggestions for their NBSAP revisions.

State of implementation/results

In Brazil, a public presentation of the selected metropolitan areas was organized during the „Brazilian Environmental Management Forum“.
  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India established a steering committee for the project on a national level. – The development of a reporting platform is in the process of being realized.
