MDBs' climate leadership

As of: September 2021

Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) have the potential to be key leaders of the global transition to a climate-safe world. However, reforms are necessary, as too many decision-makers within the MDBs continue to view climate action as conflicting with the goal of poverty alleviation. At the global level, the project supports key shareholders of the largest MDBs to create a politically enabling environment for more effective leadership on climate change issues. The project also seeks to raise awareness of the role that MDBs play with civil society, academics, and other stakeholders in Germany and beyond. MDBs have a significant multiplier effect and act as a catalyst for change far beyond their direct financial impact. They set standards and act as role models for other national and regional development banks.
