Piloting nested REDD+ accounting in Colombia
As of: March 2021
The aim of the project was to contribute to the protection of the threatened Columbian forests. In a first step a first high-level technical assessment to identify regions or departments for development of subnational reference levels (RL) was implemented. Furthermore, the project supported the elaboration of policy guidance on the development of subnational RLs and monitoring and reporting work within a national strategy. For this purpose, an online REDD+ register to record, track, and share relevant information at the national, subnational, and project levels was established. Thus, the project supported accurate accounting for emission reductions, facilitated results-based funding, and increased community and private sector participation in REDD+ in Colombia. Furthermore, the project developed important lessons for other REDD+ countries and UNFCCC negotiations.
