Solar Thermal Tower Power Plant in Algeria (AlSol)

The purpose of the project was to carry out a detailed feasibility study for the construction of a solar thermal tower power plant in Algeria. The plant will utilise the open volumetric receiver principle of the type currently being demonstrated for the first time at the Solar Institute in Jülich, Germany. This is the first time that solar thermal power plants in the North African market have featured a German technology. In addition, a list of recommendations was drawn up for equipping a ‘Technopol’ (renewable energies demonstration centre) associated with the solar thermal tower.

  • Project completed
  • Following the conclusion of a cooperative agreement between the Algerian Government and the cooperation partners, an appropriate location was selected from three different locations to construct the solar thermal tower
  • Study carried out to determine the basic feasibility of constructing a solar thermal tower power plant in the region
