South-South cooperation on climate information and services – development of a platform for knowledge management and joint learning

As of: September 2021

Climate information and services (CIS) and the ability to respond to climate change are essential for building resilient communities and ecosystems. The project therefore facilitates cooperation between stakeholders and the CIS in the Philippines and all over the world. To this end, it is developing a platform for knowledge management and the exchange of learning between the world’s southern hemisphere countries that are particularly affected by climate change. The platform contains quality-tested climate data and information that any interested parties can access, and the project promotes the development of knowledge and resources in national authorities. It also supports academies and local government units and effectively demonstrates the co-benefits of mitigation measures, nationally-determined contributions and nationally appropriate mitigation actions. /

State of implementation/results

  • The project is working with the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to provide organizational support to the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF). This lays the foundations for closer cooperation among the 48 member states in reducing the adverse impacts of climate change. In its Midnight Survival Deadline for the Climate, the Forum had called on all countries to submit ambitious new climate targets through their Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs, to the Paris Agreement.
