Support to Viet Nam for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement
As of: April 2020
Objective and activities
The project supports the Government of Viet Nam in implementing its climate change objectives under the Paris Agreement. The project advises the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MONRE) on the regular revision of Viet Nam’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and on the establishment of a legal framework on climate change. It helps boost MONRE’s inter-ministerial coordination capacities with regard to climate change. Viet Nam’s NDC implementation process is facilitated by the preparation and implementation of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). Furthermore, the project implements ecosystem-based adaptation measures in two provinces and aims to scale up the experiences made here. Viet Nam’s capacities to develop a national adaptation plan are also being enhanced. By integrating the objectives of the NDC into a comprehensive national legal framework, Viet Nam is laying the foundations for sound and ambitious mid- to long-term climate change policies.
State of implementation/results
- On 30 and 31 October, the IKI Interfaces Project "Support to Vietnam for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement" hosted a conference for IKI implementers in Vietnam (IKI Interfaces-WS). About 60 representatives from numerous IKI projects took part in the event. The workshop focused on identifying synergies and improving knowledge management among the projects.
- The Vietnamese government is currently revising its Environmental Protection Act of 2014, a process that offers the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) the opportunity to revise the climate chapter and to anchor the Vietnamese National Climate Change Contribution (NDC) in it.
