Training Local "Gold Standard" Experts

The project supported to develop the carbon market, especially to improve the quality and sustainability of 'Clean Development Mechanism' (CDM). To this end, the project established a global network of regional Gold Standard managers who supported project developers on the ground through local stakeholder consultations, on-site audits and project visits. The project also trained the project developers as well as 'Designated National Authorities' (DNAs), non-governmental organizations, technical cooperation organizations, 'Designated Operational Entities' (DOEs) and retailers.
State of implementation/results
- Project completed
- Positions established for seven regional Gold Standard managers and one Network Controller (for two years)
- More network staff members have been financed through WWF Netherlands and The Gold Standard Foundation
- 40 training workshops, four Gold Standard academies and over 40 conference visits aimed at project developers, DOEs and DNAs were carried out
- A new market for CDM projects, among them more than 20 projects in Sub-Sahara Africa, was developed.
