Wedging the gap: Identification of options for increasing the impact of private sector GHG emission reduction initiatives

As of: September 2021

The project produced an action plan for the upscaling and multiplication of private sector initiatives for climate change mitigation. For this purpose, it analysed and assessed the emission reductions of several sample initiatives. The results of the analysis were validated with stakeholders from the private sector, governments, and financiers to identify success factors and develop the action plan. The aim was to encourage economic actors to commit to voluntary emission reductions, enhance ongoing activities or initiate new ones. It did so with a view to increasing the ambition of these initiatives and highlighting frontrunners. The project was part of the overarching initiative ‘Wedging the Gap’, aiming at closing the gap between the estimated global GHG emissions in 2020 and development paths compatible with global warming of no more than 2°C by combining the efforts of different mitigation initiatives.
