The EU carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) and China: Unpacking options on policy design, potential responses, and possible impacts

GIZ partnered with adelphi and Tsinghua University to analyse how the EU CBAM might impact China and propose ways for both sides to leverage the tool so as to expand their climate cooperation. For this purpose, this report offers an overview of key design features, interaction scenarios with current climate policies as well as stakeholder views from both regions. In the end, policy suggestions to both EU and Chinese policymakers regarding the CBAM and other climate measures are made.
