Pre-feasibility report: Restoring degraded coffee landscapes

The UNESCO biosphere reserve "Yayu Coffee Forest" is considered the place of origin of Arabica coffee. Due to low production, farmers are expanding their coffee cultivation areas into the nature reserve's conservation zone. This has led to a decline in forested areas and deterioration in soil quality. This pre-feasibility study proposes a series of activities to improve the sustainable production of coffee. The report expounds on the main actors in the Ethiopian coffee value chain, the relevant policies and laws and the current situation on the ground, among other things. It also goes on to show how to develop a scalable business model for sustainable coffee.
