ValuES: Methods for integrating ecosystem services into policy, planning and practice

As of: July 2018

Objective and activities

The project enables partner ministries and organisations to make effective use of the findings generated by biophysical or economic methods to identify and evaluate ecosystem services. They are thus better able to mainstream ecosystem services in planning processes and policy fields. Through training and consultancy the partners learn to select and apply suitable methods by which to analyse ecosystem services. They also learn how to communicate the findings in a manner appropriate to specific target groups and to feed these into the relevant policy-making processes. If the value and importance of ecosystem services are conveyed systematically to policy-making processes, it will be possible to reduce adverse effects on ecosystems and counter the drivers of biodiversity loss.

State of implementation/results

  • Advisory needs of partner countries have been surveyed
  • New training materials have been developed on ecosystem services
  • Training courses have been carried out on ecosystem services in Mexico and Colombia
  • 50 method fact sheets and items of additional information have been produced and are being fed into the project’s online catalogue of methods
