Basic Energy and Climate Change Adaptation Programme (BECCAP)

As of: November 2018

Objective and activities

The purpose of the project was to reduce greenhouse gases emissions from private households and small businesses through the development, identification and dissemination of energy-efficient technologies and methods. These were designed to sustainably secure and improve the supply of energy to low-income households and small businesses. The project supported and advised various South African partner organisations on the implementation of corresponding activities. One of these was the ‘Basa njengo Magogo’ project, an initiative of South Africa’s Ministry of Energy, which was concerned with the dissemination of alternative methods of fire lighting in the poor areas of South Africa.
