Biodiver_City San José - Establishment of Interurban Biocorridors

Objective and activities

The Project aims to promote the interurban bio corridor concept into sustainable urban planning by MINAE, SINAC, the municipalities of the GAM and other relevant stakeholders on national and municipal level. Ecosystem-based urban planning will help to restore ecosystem services like water provision and regulation, urban microclimate and recreational spaces and improve the well-being of the whole urban population in the GAM. For this purpose the project focusses on these challenges: Aligning regulations, directives and instruments for urban planning to the interurban bio corridor concept integrating ecosystem services. Strengthening implementation and cooperation capacities of stakeholders responsible for interurban bio corridor management. Promoting exchange of experiences and establishment of strategic partnership on national and international level disseminating innovative approaches of integrating ecosystem services in urban development and interurban bio corridor management.

  • Seminar " Rivers without plastic " ("Rios sin plastico") organized together with UNDP, Ministry of Environment MINAE and Ministry of Health MSP (Ministerio de Salud Publica) event to reflect the waste (and sewage) problems of rivers in urban areas biocorredores.org/…
  • Seminar Urban Soils San José, 12.-13.09.2019: Status Biodiver_CITY, presentation of experiences gained by the project (in exchange with TU Darmstadt), financing of the participation of relevant partners
  • The videos developed to raise awareness about the importance of urban ecosystem services were presented in webinars in the region with other projects financed by BMU, BMZ and donors (EbA Communityof Practice: www.AdaptationCommunity.net)
