Building GHGs National Inventory Systems - Capacity Development for National GHG´s Inventories in Non-Annex I Countries

Objective and activities

Through workshops and training activities at international, regional and national levels, and with an online training course, the project was teaching participants how to carry out greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in their country in accordance with the criteria of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat, and how to report on these. This was an important step in every country's preparations for the future REDD+ mechanism.

State of implementation/results

  • Project completed
  • Global workshops held: a. conveying the elementary building blocks for setting up a system for a GHG inventory, with participants from 40 countries, b. an exchange at COP 17 between decision-makers about their activities to date •Regional workshops held (in the SADC states, West Africa and South America) to develop ideas from the first global workshop and support them at the regional level.
  • National technical workshops held for experts to train them in methods for completing a GHG inventory.
  • Diverse technical options assessed; a structure designed for online training; the website cdredd.org was launched.
  • Its launch was part of the second global workshop; training materials produced to support the writing and assessment of reports; audio and video data from the workshops integrated into the online training concept.
