Support to Institutionalising Capacity Building on Climate Change in Indie (I-CCC)

As of: March 2019

Objective and activities

The Indian government decided to establish the National Institute for Climate Change Studies and Actions (NICCSA) in order to underpin its climate policy scientifically and to strengthen the foundation for policy-making. In the future, NICCSA will be connected to the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The goal of the project is to support both MoEFCC and NICCSA employees up to the institute’s formal establishment through extensive capacity development measures. Moreover, linkages to national and international research institutes will be supported to establish NICCSA as the central coordinating point for climate science in India. In addition, there are plans to develop a knowledge platform in order to make climate-related knowledge available to the public.
