Objective and activities

Against the background of far-reaching institutional changes in Indonesia, the project aims at supporting the Indonesian government by strengthening climate governance competences in order to integrate key building blocks of the Paris Agreement into the national climate policy framework. The project focuses on different dimensions of governance, such as the strengthening the political steering capabilities, the interministerial coordination and the engagement and networking with Non-Party-Stakeholders.

State of implementation/results

  • From 24 to 26 April 2019, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) hosted the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop 2019. 40 representatives from 18 Asian countries exchanged views on reporting in the context of the Extended Transparency Framework as well as on monitoring the progress of NDC implementation. The project supported the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement in organising the event.
  • In July 2019, KLHK organised an international workshop for the Coral Triangle Initiative with participants from 6 countries and various relevant institutions in Indonesia.
  • With the support of the project, the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia (BAPPENAS) joitnly hosted the 2nd IKI Interface Workshop. This took place as part of the BMU's visit to Indonesia and was attended by more than 120 participants from 21 national and international project implementing organisations and 20 political partner institutions.
  • The project supported the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in organising a climate festival to raise public awareness. This took place from 2 to 4 October 2019.
