Climate Protection in Croatia


Objective and activities

This project is helping to secure an environmentally sound and efficient energy supply in Croatia. The Croatian energy supplier Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) is being granted a credit line of EUR 50 million to finance renewable energies and energy efficiency measures. Additional funding will be made available for training measures and advisory services.

State of implementation/results

  • Total project volume: € 50,000,000 (low-interest loans including accompanying measure)
  • District heating system modernised in the cities of Zagreb and Velika Gorica
  • Public lighting improved in the city of Cakovec
  • Construction of two Cogeneration biomass power plants (Osijek and Sisak) with a total potential of mitigating 50.000 tCO2e per year
