Conserving Virgin Forests in the Bikin Region
As of: April 2018
Objective and activities
The project contributed to the long-term protection of the virgin forest in the Bikin region by preventing conventional logging. For this, the project partners established the granting of a special licence for forest by-products (also known as non-timber forest products). They also developed long-term solutions to protect the area, e.g. through management plans and by improving the income situation of local people.
State of implementation/results
- Project completed
- Reduction of approximately 560,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions achieved over the duration of the project
- Rights of use for non-timber forest products transferred to the local partner organisation Tribal Commune Tiger
- Income situation of local population improved by more effective marketing of Korean pine nuts
- Land use plan developed and authorised by relevant authorities
