Credit Programme Balkan Green Financing

Objective and activities

This project aimed to provide participating partner banks with credit lines for renewable energies and energy efficiency. These loans could be used to finance small-scale renewable energy projects, such as biomass stoves, solar thermal heating, small hydropower plants and geothermal energy. Loans for energy efficiency focused on simple and cost-effective energy efficiency measures with the aim of achieving energy savings of 20% with each investment.

State of implementation/results

  • Project completed
  • Long-term credit lines for measures related to renewable energies and energy efficiency were offered by KfW to local partner banks.
  • Funding forwarded to companies and private households by the local banks.
  • Loans were used primarily in the transport sector and for investments in agricultural, production and construction machinery.
  • Targeted energy savings of at least 20 percent per investment were achieved.
