Credit Programme for Climate Protection

As of: November 2018

Objective and activities

The project contributed to the promotion of renewable energies in China. To this end, KfW Entwicklungsbank provided a long-term credit line to the Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank) in the amount of EUR 41.8 million. The Exim Bank used the funds to grant long-term loans to private investors for their investments in renewable energies. By introducing new credit products for renewable energies, the project helped to increase the availability of financial products for the sustainable energy supply sector within the Chinese banking sector. The target group of the credit programme was primarily the Exim Bank, which was assisted in establishing the new financial products in a sustainable manner. Further addressees of the programme included Chinese industrial enterprises which carried out investment measures to utilise renewable energy sources. The credit line was accompanied by training measures for the staff of the Exim Bank in the preparation and evaluation of investment projects in the field of renewable energies.
