ecbi Training, Support, and Trust-building Project

As of: November 2019

Objective and activities

The ecbi is a consortium that has a proven ten year track record in supporting the international climate change negotiations through three work streams: a Fellowship Programme, a Training and Support Programme, and a Publications and Policy Analysis Unit. Building on this track record, the ecbi lead members OCP and IIED propose an integrated Training, Support and Trust-building Project to help build a level playing field for developing country climate change negotiators particularly from most vulnerable countries, and to build trust between negotiators from developing and developed, in particular, European countries.

State of implementation/results

  • Three regional training workshops were conducted during 2016 in Dakar, Dar es Salaam and Dhaka, with 74 negotiators participating
  • Two pre-COP workshops were completed prior to COP21 in Paris and COP22 in Marrakech, with a total of 36 negotiators participating
  • Logistical support for individual negotiators was provided to four bursary holders to attend UNFCCC negotiations
