The objective of this project proposal was to restore two very productive broadleaf forest areas in the region around the city of Lenkoran in Azerbaijan. Further objectives of this project were to reforest the wooded area to restore natural biodiversity (thereby helping to create an active carbon sink), reflood coastal marshes (thereby helping to create an active carbon sink while providing and managing renewable energy sources) and implement land use concept plans for the buffer zone around Hyrcan National Park (pursing an ‘energy forest’ concept, thereby helping to create an active carbon sink while strengthening the habitat conservation regime, providing and managing renewable energy sources and, ultimately, increasing CO2 storage capacity). The project war a feasibility study only which didn´t result im an implementation project.
