Health Adaptation to Climate Change

Objective and activities

The project was part of a seven-project programme implemented by WHO and aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to identify the health-related risks of climate change. The outcome of the project was the development of a National Adaptation Strategy, which included mapping health risks through a health impact assessment in the country. A further aim was that the project should build local capacity by training specialists and increase the in-formation material available in the Kazakh language.

State of implementation/results

  • Project completed
  • National climate change vulnerability assessment for Kazakhstan's health sector completed in March 2012
  • National climate adaptation plan for Kazakhstan's health sector completed in September 2012
  • Capacity to manage the climate-related increase in health risks (infectious diseases in particular) improved, among other things by carrying out appropriate training for doctors and health care professionals
