Health Adaptation to Climate Change

Objective and activities

The project was part of a seven-project programme implemented by WHO that aimed at strengthening the capacity of participating countries to identify the health-related risks of climate change. To this end the project partners conducted a National Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for the health sector and developed a national adaptation strategy based on its findings. The project aimed at expanding local know-how in this field by training experts and making information more widely available in the relevant language.

State of implementation/results

  • Project completed
  • Climate change vulnerability analysis completed in December 2011 for the health sector of the pilot region Arkhangelsk Oblast
  • Regional climate change adaptation plan completed in June 2012 for the health sector of the pilot region Arkhangelsk Oblast
  • Capacity to manage the heightened health risks due to climate change improved, including through corresponding training for doctors and health care professionals, improvements to the early warning system for infectious diseases, and awareness-raising activities for the general public
