Improving the Energy Policy Setting for Renewable Energies and Grid-Connected Pilot Wind Energy Project

As of: April 2018

Objective and activities

The purpose of the project was to support Viet Nam’s Ministry of Trade and Industry in shaping energy policy and optimising technical parameters in a way which is conducive to the development of wind energy. The key aims were to develop funding instruments modelled on the German 'Renewable Energy Sources Act' (EEG), to provide advice on the planning of wind power plants in the provinces, and to support the private sector in connection with the construction of grid-connected wind farms.

Expanding renewable energies in Viet Nam

State of implementation/results

  • Project completed
  • Support provided in the successful introduction of a tariff for electricity and wind power
  • Two training courses on wind measurement and approval planning carried out
  • Criteria for location analysis developed, planning guidelines drawn up on wind energy planning in three provinces, ten wind measurement stations installed (three of which were installed through public-private partnerships)
  • Comprehensive manual on carrying out wind energy planning created
  • Project results presented on the project's own internet platform, and during information sessions with German developers and wind power plant constructors
