Integrated Approaches to the Development of Climate Friendly Economies in Central Asia
As of: June 2018
Objective and activities
The objective of the project was to support four Central Asian countries in developing a climate policy framework that promotes climate-friendly economic development. It supported the Kazakh Government in developing a Green Growth Strategy. In the other countries, project partners identified finance-ready nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs). Three NAMA concepts were developed: on energy-efficient building renovation In Uzbekistan, on energy-efficient district heating in Kyrgyzstan, and on reforestation in Tajikistan, which can also be used for other countries and sectors. The project increased the acceptance of NAMAs as a core element of an international mitigation architecture; the exchange of experiences and cooperation at the national and regional levels made a decisive contribution to further developing them. An important element of this was the promotion of technology cooperation.
State of implementation/results
- Project completed
- Development of NAMA concepts for Uzbekistan (energy efficiency in the housing sector), Kyrgyzstan (energy efficient heating), and Tajikistan (GHG mitigation through reforestation)
