Mainstreaming of ecosystem based adaptation into the national climate change adaptation strategy and into land use and development of Viet Nam
As of: June 2018
Objective and activities
Climate change is threatening Viet Nam’s biodiversity, ecosystems and its services and thus the livelihood of many people who depend on them. Viet Nam’s adaption policy does not yet take into account ecosystem based adaption (EbA) according to its potential. Rural people and staff / decision makers within institutions that deal with adaptation are the target groups of the project. Ecosystem based adaptation will be integrated into the national adaptation strategy and both land use and developing planning through advisory services to relevant institutions, capacity development and pilot EbA activities (including monitoring and impact assessment) as well as the development of innovative and effective adaptation methods. The integration of EbA approaches contributes to the sustainable protection of biodiversity, ecosystems and its services and to the enhancement of the resilience of rural people confronting the impacts of climate change.
State of implementation/results
- In cooperation with the project "Strengthening Evidence and Informing Policy“ by IIED, the project developed criteria for EbA; this work is due to be completed by December 2016.
- Relevant EbA case studies and methods from a variety of other projects and initiatives are being collected and reviewed.
