Moving Colombian Low Carbon Development Strategy towards Action: Implementation Phase
As of: January 2020
Objective and activities
The project seeks to support the implementation of Colombia’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (since 2012) towards the achievement of a less carbon-intensive economy. After diagnosis, prospective and planning phases and setting up a goal (iNDC), there is a need to start effective execution of actions in different sectors and regions, to demonstrate the feasibility of the low-carbon approach. The project will carry out demonstration initiatives on GHG emissions reductions covering industry, agriculture, energy and housing sectors in particular regions. Yet, the project also recognizes the need to work on policy development, which has a huge potential to facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy, as well on building capacities in the public and private sectors at the local level, through different means, including communication. The project seeks to contribute to the deviation of trends in emissions and to prepare the country for the implementation of the Paris commitments.
