MRV system for mitigation actions in Indonesia
As of: June 2019
Objective and activities
Setting up a national MRV system to comply with the reporting obligations of the Paris Agreement (Article 13/2015), IDN faces challenges of realigning several existing databases incl. data collection. The project supports the Indonesian government, particularly BAPPENAS, in the development of a standardized MRV system of mitigation measures: 1) support national/sub-national stakeholders in the integration of existing tool (PEP) into a national MRV system, including the development of institutional arrangements; 2) support the Secretariat of the National Action Plan on Reduction (RAN-GRK) of collecting standardized data that is consistent with international guidelines and building a comprehensive data management system; 3) strengthening capacities for national and sub-national stakeholders in reporting on mitigation measures. The project will work closely with BAPPENAS (lead ministry for implementation of RAN-GRK) and, with other actors (in particular KLHK and the Ministry of the Interior).
State of implementation/results
- In a kick-off meeting of the project organized on 11 March 2019, the participants agreed to review the existing monitoring systems of the participating Indonesian ministries (Ministry of Development Planning, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Transport). The project will, in further meetings, bring forward proposals for the creation of an interface between the systems and facilitate the exchange of information on data requirements.
- The project supported the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs in preparing a high-quality and interministerially coordinated presidential report on climate change, to be submitted by the end of April 2019.
