The purpose of the project was to prepare the rural population to cope with increasing aridity. Tried and proven forms of local initiative for adapting to climate change was disseminated and replicated by building networks. To this end, pilot projects on irrigation in the northeast of Brazil that are already under way were expanded. In addition, support was being provided to establish a network of municipalities and organisations seeking to disseminate successful adaptation measures. In addition to training measures, a limited amount of technical equipment (such as pumps and irrigation equipment) was also being provided.
