PREVENT – Providing Support to Delegations from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) for the Post-2012 Negotiations

Objective and activities

The purpose of the project was to provide scientific and analytical support to the delegations from the LDCs and SIDS in the course of the further post-2012 negotiations. This support was provided when requested by delegations. Briefing papers and analyses were prepared for this purpose. A specially adapted computer model helped to rapidly capture the links between greenhouse gas reductions or warming scenarios and climate change impacts for specific regions in developing countries. In addition, capacity ihas been built by training and integrating experts from these countries. Experts supported negotiators during the negotiations.

  • Project completed
  • Successful support of negotiators from LDC and SIDS through science-based advice on technical and policy issues in the UNFCCC negotiations
  • Enhancement of PRIMAP platform to incorporate needs of negotiators from LDC and SIDS, e.g. on options for equitable effort sharing of greenhouse gas emission reductions
  • Preparation of 216 briefing papers on various issues from the climate negotiations
