Strengthening Regional Experiences on Sustainable Peatland Management (ASEAN-REPEAT)

As of: August 2019

Objective and activities

The project aims at promoting and scaling up successful approaches in sustainable peatland management and thus contributes to implementing the ASEAN Peatland Management Strategy. In pilot areas in IDN and MYS, the countries with the largest peat areas, approaches are tested for their effectiveness, financial feasibility and possible benefits for biodiversity conservation, GHG-mitigation and climate change adaptation. Based on this, the project prepares tangible financing concepts, business models, and fiscal policy recommendations for scaling up results. Experiences are shared regionally within ASEAN structures and in international negotiations. The target group of the project includes the local population, especially village communities, concession holders, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers in IDN and MYS at national or district level. The EC has approved an amount of 14,6 Mill. € to co-finance the implementation of national strategies and action plans.
