Supporting Structures for the LifeWeb Initiative

As of: October 2018

Objective and activities

The goal of this project was to establish the necessary structures to implement the LifeWeb Initiative. This initiative was launched at the 9th Conference of Parties of the CBD (Bonn 2008) in order to globally promote financing protected areas. The project has developed an internet platform which served as a clearing house and online market place for project proposal in the area of biodiversity, conservation and adapatation to climate change. LifeWeb brokered 62 matches between donors and recipient countries with a total of 200 million Euros until March 2013. In 2014 the funding matches added up to 30 million Euros. The Bio Bridge Initiative, promoted by the Government of Korea together with the CBD Secretariat, builds on the Life Web Initiative.
