The new cabinet has been formed: following the appointment and swearing in of the re-elected Federal Chancellor, Federal President Joachim Gauck appointed the ministers of the new Federal Government, presenting the five women and nine men with their appointment papers at Schloss Bellevue. The federal ministers were then sworn in in the German Bundestag.

Barbara Hendricks, who will head the restructured Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, holds a doctorate in history. She has been a Member of the German Bundestag since 1994 and was a Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance from 1998 to 2007.
