ICI Workshop on LCDS, NAMAs and MRV

On 11 June 2011, in a fringe event at the UN climate negotiations in Bonn, about 50 experts attended a workshop entitled 'Developing Knowledge on the Building Blocks of a Global Mitigation Architecture'. The meeting was initiated by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The participants were all staff of International Climate Initiative (ICI) projects engaged in low-carbon development strategies (LCDS), nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs), and measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) in developing and transition countries.

The workshop was used to present a range of different approaches to using these mitigation tools, and for discussing the main lessons learned. These exchanges revealed a number of key factors for the successful development and use of each of the three instruments as part of climate projects. Some of the participants also discovered activities and areas of interest they had in common, which will provide the basis for cooperation between the projects. In this way, the individual projects can complement one another and have a greater impact.
