Sino-German climate partnership and cooperation on renewable energies

Objective and activities

The aim of the project is to promote bilateral dialogue with China on climate change mitigation and the transformation to a low-carbon economy. It is the continuation of a previous project and provides support to the bilateral climate working group led by the NDRC and German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). The policy dialogue is underpinned by a range of measures such as training activities and policy advising on issues agreed upon within the climate working group.

In addition, the project is supplemented by a specific dialogue on decentralised energy production and supply in China based on renewable energies. The aim is to improve the legal and institutional framework for decentralised renewable energies and to support their use in Chinese cities. German industry, municipal representatives and other key players from Germany will be integrated into the project’s implementation process. In addition, efforts are planned for promoting greater involvement by China in the international dialogue on renewable energies (e.g. within the context of IRENA).
