Developing integrated monitoring systems for REDD+

Objective and activities

The project is providing the SADC countries with technical and institutional support to prepare them for participation in the REDD+ mechanism (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation). To this end, the project partners are first assessing existing data sources and setting minimum standards for a supraregional system for monitoring trends in forest cover, carbon stocks and emissions. Training courses are also enhancing the competencies of institutions involved in REDD+. The monitoring system developed is being piloted in selected SADC member states.
