National Competence Centre for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Morocco

Objective and activities

The project is helping set up a climate competence centre in Morocco. This centre both strengthens capacities for implementing the national climate strategy and facilitates active participation in the international dialogue on adapting to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A training and information programme prepares Moroccan experts to act as multipliers and raise awareness on climate policy and opportunities for adaptation and mitigation measures across the country. Staff from ministries and regional and local authorities will also receive training in these areas.

A further aim of the competence centre for climate change mitigation, greenhouse gas reduction, and adaptation to climate change is to establish a sustainable knowledge management system. This includes the development of a reliable climate database and measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems. These tools lay the groundwork for designing and implementing effective and sustainable mitigation and adaptation measures that also serve as a basis for international climate change dialogue.
