Green Room Air-Conditioning (GRAce)
The highest growth rates for fluorinated greenhouse gases are achieved in air conditioning (AC) systems. The technology of choice is currently still refrigerants with a high global warming potential (GWP), mainly HCFCs and HFCs. Despite sufficient production capacities for the global market, the market launch and penetration of room ACs based on natural refrigerants (R290) is being delayed and actively hindered. The project therefore promotes the introduction and dissemination of climate and environmentally friendly and energy-efficient ACs in selected partner and pilot countries and addresses end-of-life management. It strengthens the competence of private and public key actors, improves international and national framework conditions and supports the exchange of experience at international level for replication in other countries. The project contributes to unlocking the significant GHG reduction potential (up to 128 GtCO2eq by 2100) in the AC sub-sector.
