IKI Invest
IKI Invest exclusively supports multi-donor initiatives and financing funds with the objective of
- Strengthening and effective further development of multilateral cooperation to protect the climate and biodiversity
- Conceptualizing promising financing instruments for the mobilisation of private capital and investments in climate action and biodiversity conservation
In both cases, IKI Invest intends promoting financial assistance within partner countries above all.
Funds may pursue objectives within the four IKI funding areas listed below:
- Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions
- Adaptation to the impacts of climate change
- Preservation of natural carbon sinks and mitigation of emissions by avoiding deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+)
- Conservation of biological diversity
IKI contributions into funds can also cover more than one funding area.
Which rules apply to IKI Invest?
Funding via IKI Invest is subject to certain conditions:
- Partners are eligible if they are authorised for the fiduciary management of funds. Usually, these are international organisations, multilateral development banks and the KfW, in which the Federal Republic of Germany has co-determination rights as a member/shareholder.
- IKI Invest does not support conventional project funding, but exclusively global multi-donor initiatives and financing funds
- The IKI contribution must qualify for the German climate finance reporting. Partner countries must therefore be ODA eligible and/or Non-Annex I countries.
Equal standards and policies apply to IKI Invest compared to the other IKI funding instruments. These comprise reporting on objectives and associated indicators as well as regulations regarding the complaint mechanism. Further information is available in the IKI Invest requirements.
The documents detailing the IKI Invest requirements will be provided on this page in a timely manner.
