Nature-based solutions for climate-resilient water management (“SbN Agua”)

Water scarcity is becoming an increasingly serious problem in many parts of Mexico. Climate change intensifies the situation, affecting the availability, distribution, and quality of water resources. The discharge of untreated wastewater into ecosystems causes ecological, health, and social problems, while groundwater overuse is on the rise. The Mexican government has therefore made water resource management a national priority. The project improves the framework conditions for climate-resilient water management in the Valle de México. It strengthens coordination among different actors and implements nature-based pilot measures to enhance water production and infiltration in ecosystems. Monitoring, participatory management, and financing approaches ensure sustainability. The project also promotes knowledge exchange with Germany and supports the scaling up of successful solutions at local and national levels.
