Working with indigenous populations to restore eroded soils in saline ecosystems in highland regions

In the central highlands of Bolivia, soils are increasingly degraded by factors such as salinization and erosion, which is exacerbated by climate change. Meanwhile, the lack of sustainable and adaptable practices has also led to a significant decline in vegetation cover, which in turn has a negative impact on the availability of forage areas for livestock. The deterioration of the soil's ability to feed plants and animals is a serious problem for livestock farmers in the region. The project approach combines holistic agroecological and climate-change-adapted practices with the aim of remediating soils from salinization and increasing plant cover and biodiversity with native halophytes for forage purposes. The project focuses on capacity building, with a focus on vulnerable indigenous populations and women.
