Introducing regenerative farming and solar-powered irrigation for women farmers

The project aims to improve the income situation of women in agriculture in Zambia by increasing crop yields and utilising sustainable cultivation practices. For example, the use of synthetic fertilisers in maize production is to be reduced and replaced with natural fertilisers such as compost. The project focuses on regenerative farming methods and renewable energy technologies such as solar water pumps. 300 women farmers from nine cooperatives and nine extension officers take part in quarterly workshops on regenerative agriculture, and solar-powered irrigation systems are installed. Weekly visits are to ensure that the new methods are being successfully implemented. As a result, yields can be increased by at least 25%. This leads to higher incomes for the farmers and their families. Indirectly, up to 27,000 farmers are reached through the involvement of state agricultural advisors.
