Greening urban areas to improve availability of water and climate resilience

Climate change and lack of rainfall are exacerbating the already acute water shortage in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Nature-based solutions such as urban greening can sustainably improve water availability and climate resilience in the city, but there is a lack of technical capacity and scalable pilot plantings. The project aims to develop comprehensive concepts and capacity development of key actors for the greening of urban areas in Ramallah through the use of non-potable water. Close cooperation with local authorities and long-term implementation are planned. In addition to the establishment of a tree nursery, measures include awareness campaigns for young people as well as measures for the active integration of women for improved gender equality. The project approach can be replicated and scaled up by disseminating it in other urban areas in the region.
