The Forest Reserve Makere South and Game Reserve Moyowosi in the Kigoma region of Tanzania are subject so significant forest degradation and land use change. Drivers include encroachment, pastoralism, fires, population growth, and conflicts related to land tenure. The project addresses forest destruction by empowering local communities and raising awareness on conservation. Moreover the project fosters cooperation between various stakeholders. Measures focus on capacity development, community engagement, and innovative conservation strategies to enhance trust and cooperation among local communities, conservation authorities, and other relevant stakeholders. Scaling of process innovations and focus on conservation business models allow for replication in similar contexts and project sustainability beyond project lifetime.
